We put our experience to work for you.
Walden Rigging is a mobile sailboat rigging company based in North East, Maryland. We specialize in maintaining sailboats under 45' in length and offer our customers the convenience of professional repairs and upgrades brought right to their slips. We work in marinas and boat yards on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, on both eastern and western shores. For transients and cruisers, we can arrange dockage at one of several local marinas.
Our services come with the promise of dedication, quality, and durability. Fully insured, we're experienced professionals who learned our trade by working with respected mentors and personally testing equipment and designs. We offer a 1-year guarantee for all our work, along with free estimates.
We're here to help. All estimates are free and without future obligation.
We’ll only work with the best materials and provide a 1-year guarantee on all labor. We never compromise quality for time and we honor our commitments. We strive for fair customer service, so payment in full is requested only once the project is completed.

Committed to Sustainability
As sailors, we've had plenty of time watching the world go by to appreciate both the beauty and the sensitivity of our environment. We aim to be gentle to our planet, minimizing our impact in the following ways:
- Walden Rigging recycles scrap metal.
- We send invoices and inspection reports via e-mail to reduce the need for printing supplies.
- 100% of our in-house office paper is printed on both sides.
- We ship via UPS Carbon Neutral. We recycle shipping materials in all forms wherever possible.
- We pack lunch in re-usable containers and eat on-site.
We're Dobbs and Suzanne Fryberger
We starting working together in 1998 - he was fixing up a Venture 22 with aspirations of coastal cruising, and she was in college and missing her Dad's workshop. We both enjoyed time on the water - motor-boating, kayaking, and sailing, and we also both enjoyed working with our hands. The Venture 22 took us from Maryland to the FL Keys and back (and many more miles since), and whet our appetite for coastal cruising. An O'day 27 followed, "Walden", that carried us another 6 thousand miles and during which time we started working at Marathon Boat Yard. We learned from some very talented people how to service sailboat rigging and manage a business. When we wanted to return to the Chesapeake Bay a few years later, those same people offered us their support in starting our own business. We've been serving the Upper Chesapeake Bay since 2002. Nowadays you can find us cruising our 1966 Columbia 31 "Grace" on the Bay and along the U.S. East Coast.
