When it comes to rigging service, you can’t do better than Dobbs and Suzanne at Walden Rigging. I hired them to replace my standing rigging and lifelines. Maybe this is no great feat, by my boat is a 23’ Precision sloop, and they gave as much care and effort to my little pocket cruiser as they do to an expensive larger yacht.
— Pete W, "Southern Cross", Precision 23
Of the many marine service providers we have encountered, I can enthusiastically say that you will not find a better outfit than this. They come when they say they will, recommend what is prudent, execute their tasks with amazing skill and knowledge, and are conscientious in keeping my costs down. They take the time to evaluate what is or isn’t needed with an eye toward value, safety, and our enjoyment of the sailing experience.
— Joe & Karla, "Arrow", Prout Quest 31
I’ve used Walden Rigging for many years and have referred many fellow sailors to them. Dobbs and Suzanne always exceed my expectations; they are honest, reliable, and practical. Their work is always done right. I’ve also taken sailing lessons from Dobbs and learned how to sail much better.

Committed to Sustainability

As sailors, we've had plenty of time watching the world go by to appreciate both the beauty and the sensitivity of our environment.  We aim to be gentle to our planet, minimizing our impact in the following ways:

  • Walden Rigging recycles scrap metal.
  • We send invoices and inspection reports via e-mail to reduce the need for printing supplies.
  • 100% of our in-house office paper is printed on both sides.
  • We ship via UPS Carbon Neutral.  We recycle shipping materials in all forms wherever possible.
  • We pack lunch in re-usable containers and eat on-site.

About Us

We're Dobbs and Suzanne Fryberger

We starting working together in 1998 - he was fixing up a Venture 22 with aspirations of coastal cruising, and she was in college and missing her Dad's workshop. We both enjoyed time on the water - motor-boating, kayaking, and sailing, and we also both enjoyed working with our hands.  The Venture 22 took us from Maryland to the FL Keys and back (and many more miles since), and whet our appetite for coastal cruising.  An O'day 27 followed, "Walden", that carried us another 6 thousand miles and during which time we started working at Marathon Boat Yard.  We learned from some very talented people how to service sailboat rigging and manage a business.  When we wanted to return to the Chesapeake Bay a few years later, those same people offered us their support in starting our own business.  We've been serving the Upper Chesapeake Bay since 2002.  Nowadays you can find us cruising our 1966 Columbia 31 "Grace" on the Bay and along the U.S. East Coast.
